All You Need To Know About Microdermabrasion

Today, a lot of skin clinics and healthcare centers provide a lot of treatments to help improve your skin and make you look beautiful. It is one of those cosmetic procedures that is slowly picking pace in the market.

It is a non-surgical, non-invasive cosmetic procedure.  It helps exfoliate and remove the superficial layer of dry dead skin thus making your skin look younger and clearer. The procedure requires very little preparation and is usually completed in an hours’ time.

How does it work?

Based on the skin clinic, you may be given a few guidelines prior to the procedure such as avoiding exposure to the sun, tanning creams and waxing a week before the procedure. You may also be asked to avoid using any exfoliating creams or mask a few days before the treatment begins. The procedure is typically performed by a licensed skincare professional. There are a few ways that the procedure can be done such as a diamond-tip handpiece which gently exfoliates dead cells in your skin while at the same time suctioning them off from your skin. Another method that is used is Crystal Microdermabrasion which rubs away the outer layers of the skin using a crystal emitting handpiece. A recently introduced method is Hydradermabrasion which combines a simultaneous dermal infusion of products with crystal-free exfoliation. This process is known to maximize blood flow to your skin and also stimulates collagen production.

Benefits of Microdermabrasion

This procedure generally improves a person’s complexion making it smoother, brighter and more even in color.  It is often used to address issues such as dullness, uneven skin tone, skin texture, age spots, scars, clogged pores, fine lines and patches on the skin. It also helps in increasing the nutrition provided to the cell thus improving the skin’s elasticity and texture.

Care after the Procedure

There is no specific time for recovery after the procedure. The recovery is fast and you are able to resume your day to day activities soon after the procedure. You may experience a few side effects such as swelling, redness or mild tenderness in that area of your skin. However, there is no need to panic as these side effects tend to disappear within a few hours after the treatment. As your skin tends to be more sensitive soon after the procedure it would be advisable to avoid going directly in the sunlight for a few days. You could use a sunscreen to protect your skin. Also, remember to keep your skin well hydrated and use gentle skincare products.

How often do you need to repeat the Procedure?

Based on your skin type and the severity, your skin care provider may plan out a few sessions along with some maintenance sessions. Most people could be ready for another session within a week.

Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure that is usually performed in a skin clinic by a specialist or a dermatologist. It is aimed at improving the texture and smoothness of the skin. Although the procedure is non-invasive it can cause a few side effects which usually disappear within a few hours. However, this procedure is not recommended for people with skin conditions such as eczema, herpes, open sores or widespread acne. It is always best to discuss your skin concerns with the professional before you begin the process.
